All types of searches should have both infinite scroll and navigable page numbers

Submitted by brian.shapiro on March 5, 2009 to Usability

Because of indecision of which way of displaying search results is better, the Live team has split the difference, and made the web search navigable by page numbers and the image search navigable by an infinite scroll. This takes the advantages of infinite scroll away from the web search and the advantages of page numbers away from the image search.

Have search results for both web queries and image queries show in an infinite scroll, but have different positions within the scroll be navigable by page number. (like pages in Microsoft Word)
