Windows Live Movie Maker: Preserve native resolution

Submitted by pmbAustin on October 25, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

I had several small clips of video, all from the same source in the same format at the same resolution (500x288 if you must know). All I wanted to do was stitch them together into one clip.

Couldn't do it. Why? Because the only "Save Movie" options available were specific fixed resolutions. So it wasted tons of time resizing the video to meet one of those sizes. Just stupid and brain-dead.

Provide the ability to export in the native resolution. And while you're at it, having some preset "wide-screen" formats would be nice too, for portable devices, etc... you know, like Zune HD, iPhone, etc. But I should be able to specify how big I want it too, as an option, including the option to say "DO NOT RESIZE".

This is the main reason I use other tools rather than Movie Maker. When making screen capture video's its essential not to lose resolution (text is the first thing to blurr and look unprofessional).
