New Windows Live Messenger with SEND BUTTON

Submitted by KPS on September 16, 2009 to Usability

New Windows Live Messenger has no SEND BUTTON

As Windows has forced us to upgrade to "Windows Live Messenger 9.0 (2009) 14.0.8089.726" we have no chioce but to surrender. However, there is a workaround.

SOLUTION

STEP 1 ~ Of course you will need to upgrade to the new version "Windows Live Messenger 9.0 (2009) 14.0.8089.726".

STEP 2 ~ Download & install "Messenger Plus! Live 4.82.368".

STEP 3 ~ Go to http://www.msgpluslive.net/skins/view/131-My-Live-Messenger/Download & download "My Live Messenger 0.6".

STEP 4 ~ Install the new skin & restart WLM. OK, enjoy

This new skin looks very similar to the old WLM with a few minor differences.

Enjoy, regards KPS

I disagree. It's much easier to press ENTER on your keyboard.

what if you have a touch screen?

Yeah, just wanted to say, impossible so use with touch screen.
@Mephiles: OF COURSE you can still press Enter (removing this would be really stupid, but well Microsoft developers ARE)

I didn't even notice that this was missing, since I always hit Enter anyway. So it's not really necessary, though I agree that this complicates things for touch users. I wasn't missing the Send button, but it never got in my way, either.

I don't think it's really necessary. When I'm typing, it's easier to hit ENTER key rather than move my hand from keyboard to mouse and click send.

When using touch screens, probably the application that you will use to "type/write" text will have the "ENTER" button. =)

But as it's just what I think... maybe if they put an Option to show/hide "Send Button" in conversation window, it should be better.

What if you use mouse to select an emoticon and just want to send it?

You must move hand from mouse to keyboard just to send it?!

What's ergonomic about that?!

I usually type the emoticon out, faster than taking my hands off the keyboard. (not that I use chat much at all)
