Office 2010 style not only for Movie Maker.

Submitted by blai_cb on June 9, 2009 to Aesthetics, Icons, Usability

As I've said in Win7 Taskforce http://www.windows7taskforce.com/view/2667 , MS should use the new criteria established with office in all its programs, like they have done with paint, wordpad or Windows Live Movie Maker.

Not all programs will be able to use the ribbon, but at least they should use the new button (I don't know why it's blue in these 3 programs...)

I'm not saying msg has to be like in the picture! I don't like my result... XD, I say that MS has to work on it.

PD: as said in http://www.windowslivetaskforce.com/view/23 not only the main interfaces have to be updated.

Put the office team to work in all your interfaces.

I would like this as an option, but allow users to change layouts.

Hi there,

Maybe this well help your suggestion.
I made this mock up.

Chats will be displayed next to the contacts tab.

Nice mock up! But with the blue button, it's not necessary the Menu and the Options buttons.
So, to save space, I would remove the entire row changing the searh box position. (I don't know where)

On the other hand, I think the title bar can be used for containing links to hotmail, skydrive, spaces, ....

Maybe the search box could be where there is now the hotmail button?

Unless the menu button (next to the layout button) is removed in favour of the blue menu button, which will be universal across all conversations.
Then yes some of the icons can be moved to the top titlebar :) The search box I think is in a suitable place already, that's probably why you can't think of somewhere else to put it :P
I also added status to the top, so that you can change your status from any chat tab easily. Just click it in the title bar :)
I should have mentioned that in my last comment.

Oh! and the menu which is opened by clicking the name should be moved to the new blue button too, and instead, when you click on the name, you can edit it just like the personal message

:D

Thanks
Jordan

Yes, your status button is a good idea if Microsoft implements the tabbed chats ;)
But they use icons in the other programs, so instead the "status" word, I would put a green/red/orange/white square.

Working on this right now ;)
I'll get the mockup done in about 10 minutes, or even less if I work my back off.

Thanks

Added new image attachment.

I thought that the tabs could have the contact's scene color and the status square.
Then the own square would fit better in our personal tab.
Look my new mockup.

Thanks ;)

PD: How about my new search box?

Sorry, but I couldn't resist another one :P

I followed the idea of the search box because it was really good :D

I've changed the way the conversations appear. Like they appear in bubbles etc.
Maybe they could have been toned down a little, but at least it shows the general idea :D

@JTaylor69: Those are some really good mockups. Jealous is me! I love the visual design and usage of tabs.

@"submission": +1. Great idea!

Yes guys,
I've been at it again, made another one! lol
Some of you may have thought, well, if the bubbles are used, and an emoticon is showed, it may not appear right against the background, so here's another design.

Also the timestamps have been moved to the top of the bubble, with a nice little clock icon. Dependent on whether the user has activated them.

Enjoy! :)
