WLM Improvements

Submitted by semtido on April 23, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

Windows Live Messenger is a fairly good program at the moment, but there are some simple things that would add a great deal of usefullness to it, and that are present in much simpler messengers (emessene comes to mind).

1-youtube thumbnail preview when receiving/sending a link (extensible to other sites)

2-tabs. i don't want to have 10 conversation windows. I'd rather haver one with 10 tabs. (Also, and i'm not sure about this, but i think it would perhaps improve ram usage?)

3-nick colors (aka msn plus functionaliy, its a shame that a good program has to rely in add ons to do stuff the users want it to do)

4-more costumization (the little allert windows, etc)

already answered in the problem section.

1. YouTube preview would be too big for the messenger window and I don't wanna have another "level" like this shitty "Share pictures"-thingie.
2. Tabs in IMs suck.
3. Nick colors suck as well.
4. dunno

Ok Ensign Joe: thanks for the trolling ;)

Now that we moved past that:
1- Emesene has youtube preview implemented: it is not too big, it works like a charm. Of course that by your talk you are just a moron who has never used linux, so you wouldn't know...

2-Tabs in IMs rule. Of course that you being a moron don't have many friends, so the benefit of tabs for you is minimal. But there are those who need it.

3-Yeah, kind of see your point. But i'm all for freedom and choice: if you can let the users choose, then let them. Don't force them into anything, ant that includes black color for the nick.

4- First good answer you gave: you don't know. Very good indeed ;)

With Windows 7 it's better without tabs.

Why? I always have a lot of chats open and I'd like to have tabs. I dont need to have a bunch if windows open
