ask user if they would like to join a group. Don't automatically add users to a group without their consent

Submitted by .Chris on March 6, 2009 to Aesthetics

If you've used the groups feature on messenger, you'll know what I'm talking about. You always get added to a group, even if you dont want to be in it at the moment!.

Do not have the user automatically be added to a group without their consent . Just because they are a member there, doesn't mean they want to be in the group every time they are logged in to messenger.

Changed title from [Notice about joining a group: Ask the user if he/she wants to join a group.] to [Have a dialog box, asking a user if they would like to join a group. Don't automatically add users to a group without their consent].
Changed solution description.

So you want a dialog box? Clearer solution please. And I don't always get a group window open once WLM is logged in. Are you sure this is a common problem?

Yes it is Hoopla, and like I said, if you used the groups feature, you'll know what I'm talking about

I believe it is tied to the messenger feature in WL Groups. If it's turned on and you join the group, then you're automatically included in the associated WLM group. There should be an option to opt-out of WLM, just like you can opt out of group e-mail. +1

Yes, but not only that, but a window/box asking "do you want to join group xxx", but it should only appear if a group member invites you in, not automatically.
