[Hotmail] Check email button

Submitted by eye on March 22, 2009 to Usability

When I want to check my Hotmail for new email messages, I need to refresh the entire page (F5), or click in some folder.

I think that would be cool if they could put an AJAX button to check for new email messages, so I wouldn't need to refresh the entire page anymore. =)

A button/link to "check for new email messages", without need for refresh the entire page. (Using AJAX, of course)

They want us to click the inbox.

not everyone thinks that is "cool" microsoft

Yeah, this might confuse new users to Hotmail too.
They may be wondering why a new email hasn't arrived because they do not know that they have to click inbox.
Putting "check mail" or something similair will be useful and easy to understand :)

I agree that it is easy to just click Inbox however I can also see that novice users or new users to Hotmail that this is not very intuitive and a check mail button would be easy to add and would improve the service to those new or saavy users.

Why not just have it check for new e-mail every 10 minutes or so? Then we would be automatically notified of new messages. It is something I still miss a lot in WLHotmail. Not everybody has messenger or WLM installed, you know.
