[Messenger] Windows Live Messenger needs a Send button.

Submitted by xombie on March 5, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

Sometimes, you just copy paste stuff with the mouse, but to send it you need to use the keyboard...really, really annoying. Especially when you're just sitting back and reading stuff.

Bring back the send button. Please. At least as an option.

It would be a much more useful option than some of the options that have been added to Messenger over the years.

Microsoft is pushing this "touch" stuff. You tell me something, how will you send a message if your using the "touch" UI? (and note, I'm not talking about handwriting mode)

Using the enter button in the tablet entry bar, duh. Anyway, still +1 but maybe it will be better a little discrete.

I think that the send button is just a little bit waste of space (just my opinion). I like the way that is right now.
But maybe, they could make a "Right-click -> Send"? =)

Yes, a waste of space and it uglifies the place up. :-)

It really is a pain to paste something with the mouse, then have to take your hand off the mouse and hit the enter key. At the very least there should be a right-click send option.

first of all, control c control v > copying with the mouse.

as for the send button: easy way of not making it waste space: first just put it in as an option. second, put it in the bar on the bottom, at the right of the handwriting/typing buttons. everyones happy :D

Agree 100%. If my hands are on the keyboard then yes I'll use the keyboard shortcuts for copy/paste, but sometimes I'll be leaning back in my chair just using the mouse and want to send a link. It seems ridiculous to not have a send button. It doesn't need to be big and in the way, it just needs to be somewhere.

If I was using my tablet to ink chat, I would hate to have to bring up the virtual keyboard to hit enter every time. yeesh.

Why, why, why. I can't understand. There's no reason in the world to remove the sendbutton. It's just plain stupid. Some designer or programmer must have braindamage.

xombie wrote on May 10, 2009, 8:03pm

Yep. How much space does it "waste" anyway?

dcolak wrote on October 15, 2009, 4:01pm

Select an emoticon with mouse, and... move your hand from mouse to the keyboard just to send it?!

Why in a world would someone remove the send button?!

Did someone say something like "oh, that damn send button, it's bothering me?!"

Who made such a stupid decision?

It's up there with the decission to remove the "out to lunch" and "on the phone."

"But, you can type whatever you want in the text box" - Why would I want to make several clicks with a mouse and type whole words, instead of just selecting the status?

Why do Microsoft insist on making user experience as horrible as possible?

Didn't you molest us enough with the abismal windows explorer that comes with Vista?

Microsoft has managed to have new versions being worst than the previous ones.

It is even forcing us to install the latest versions! No way to use old messenger? Why?! The old one was better in every way.

Right now I'm wasting one button on my mouse which I've mapped to the Enter key. Although it comes in handy in other places too :p
