[Writer] Writer add-in gallery browsable from within Writer

Submitted by jamiet on March 8, 2009 to Usability

In order to find add-ins for Writer I have to go to gallery.live.com

I would like to be able to browse a catalogue of Writer add-ins from within Writer itself rather than having to go to http://gallery.live.com

[Groups] Tell me who wrote the most recent reply to a Live Group discussion thread

Submitted by jamiet on March 8, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

We are told when the last reply to a discussion thread occurs but we’re not told who it was written by. Seems like a glaring omission to me. If I know that I wrote an entry on a thread fairly recently there’s no way of knowing who has since replied (more...)

Tell us who wrote the most recent reply (and perhaps even give us a preview of it)

[Groups] Group reputations

Submitted by jamiet on March 8, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

Reputation is important in discussion forums so I’d like to see the same introduced in Live Groups. The more activity you do, the higher reputation you get.

Currently there's no way to know of someone is an avid group contributer (more...)

Introduce a reputation system (similar to MSDN forums)

[Groups] Takes too long to get to a group

Submitted by jamiet on March 8, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

It takes 3 clicks to get to one of my groups; once on "More" in WL Header, once on "Groups" then once more on the name of the group at groups.live.com.

How about have a submenu under More-->Groups that lists all the groups I am a member of that I can browse by hovering over.

[Groups] Let me subscribe to a group discussion thread

Submitted by jamiet on March 8, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

Currently the only way to know if someone has replied to a Group discussoin thread that I have previously left a message on is to visit the group at http://groups.live.com

Let me subscribe to a thread (perhaps via alerts.live.com) so that i can choose how and where to be notified about an update to the thread.

[Groups] Starting a new discussion on a Live Group takes 2 clicks

Submitted by jamiet on March 8, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

Starting a new discussion on a Live Group takes 2 clicks:
1) Go to the discussions page from group home page (http://<group-name>.groups.live.com)
2) Click 'Start a discussion'

'Start a discussion' should be an option on the group home page

[Groups] [Mail] Live Mail to be offline reader for group discussions

Submitted by jamiet on March 8, 2009 to Usability

There is no offline reader for Group discussions.

Live Mail is already a very good NNTP client. I'd like to see that extended to be a client for Live Groups discussion boards as well.

I don't give a monkey's if the underlying transport is NNTP/Mesh or whatever - I just want (more...)

[Groups] Group discussion threads need to be threaded

Submitted by jamiet on March 8, 2009 to Usability

Messeges in a discussion thread appear in time order which means you can't see whom has replied to whom

There are a multitude of possible improvements for Groups following the recent v1 release though probably the most obvious is to make the discussion forums threaded (a la an NNTP client).

[Messenger] Show a different status to different groups/categories

Submitted by jamiet on March 8, 2009 to Usability

At the moment every one of my messenger buddies sees the same status (e.g. Online, Away, etc...)

I sometimes want to appear offline to certain people whilst appearing online to others (e.g. When at work I only want work colleagues to see (more...)

I would like the ability to define a status per category/group.
