[Groups] [Profile] [SkyDrive] [Spaces] Create consistent sorting/navigation options for comments and discussions

Submitted by gregsedwards on March 31, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Have you noticed? Blog, profile, and SkyDrive comments on WL sort newest to oldest, but discussions sort in completely the opposite direction. Some comment pages display first/back/next/last navigation buttons only at the top/bottom of the page, but their (more...)

Provide a consistent sort order for comments across WL, or provide a simple sorting mechanism to give users control over which direction to sort the comments. Provide a reliable place to find comment navigation buttons, and make them look the same across (more...)

[Spaces] Provide better control over comments

Submitted by gregsedwards on March 18, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

It's easier than before to manage blog comments and remove spam, but WL needs to increase the focus on keeping spam out of our comments in the first place.

Provide more control over who can post comments to our blogs, perferrably in the form of any or all of the following: CAPTCHA/reCAPTCHA, moderation (comments don't appear until you've OKed them), more granular permissions (e.g., only allow comments (more...)

Add Gravatar support for profile picture

Submitted by gregsedwards on March 17, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

Currently I have to choose a WL Profile/Messenger picture, even though I have a Gravatar account associated with my WL email address.

Add support for using Gravatar images if the user has an account with the service. It's convenient to have a single, global point to manage avatars across the board. At a minimum, how about caching previously used avatars to make them easier to reselect?

[Groups] [Profile] Provide a view of all discussions/replies by user

Submitted by gregsedwards on March 15, 2009 to Usability

If I'm looking for discussions/replies by a specific user in a group, then I currently have to sift through each discussion manually.

Provide a view of discussions/replies by a given user, possibly via the user tile or a link on the group's page. If the What's New feed would advertise discussion replies, then I suppose you could just refer to the user's Profile page (although (more...)

Standardize the comment editors across WL.

Submitted by gregsedwards on March 13, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

There's a lot of variation between the comment editors used in Windows Live (profile notes, PMs, web-based blog editor, blog comments, guestbook, group discussions, feedback, etc.), and I'm not just talking about the exclusion of rich-formatting (more...)

Create a uniform set of editing/formatting tools for all comment editors. I've got no problem with turning on/off features depending on their context (that makes a lot of sense), but maybe add more granularity, so that some tools can be disabled (more...)

[Groups] TMI on WL Groups' What’s New list.

Submitted by gregsedwards on March 11, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

If a group member start’s a new discussion, the What’s New list includes the name of the user, name of the discussion, and the name of the group (e.g., Greg posted Stuff on Group). Outside the group that makes sense, but inside the group, the group (more...)

Inside the context of the group, the update needs to be amended to only include the name of the user and discussion (e.g., Greg posted Stuff). The group name is not necessary inside the group pages.

[Groups] Allow option to receive mail at the group email address from non-group members.

Submitted by gregsedwards on March 11, 2009 to Usability

Right now, if anyone outside the group attempts to send email to the group's address, it isn't delivered (I'm not certain whether the sender gets a 550 error or not).

I'd like to see the option to allow non-group members to send email to the group's address. For instance, I have a family group, and I'd like to provide the group's address to friends, etc., as the "family" email address (more...)

[Photos] Tagged photo integration

Submitted by gregsedwards on March 11, 2009 to Usability

If I'm tagged in another user's photos, then I can't see a summary of those photos in my SkyDrive. I know they show up on the What's New feed, etc., but they're not side-by-side with my photos in WL Photos/SkyDrive. Facebook provides (more...)

Allow photos in which I'm tagged to appear in my photo galleries, even if it’s just a link to a separate page.

[Mail] Drop the "Hot" in Hotmail

Submitted by gregsedwards on March 11, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

It just makes the brand too confusing.

Windows Live Mail is sufficient.

[People] Expose more standard contact fields.

Submitted by gregsedwards on March 11, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

It seems like every contact management tool has its own collection of fields, which is immensely frustrating.

Either provide a better set of standard fields (signifcant other, children, multiple phones), or provide a mechanism for creating your own. At a minimum, WL people fields should be consistent with those in WL Mail. After all, aren’t these all Microsoft (more...)

[People] Show me all categories to which a contact has been assigned.

Submitted by gregsedwards on March 11, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

Right now, I just sort of blindly poke people into categories and then I have to navigate to the category to see who’s in it. There's no way to see all of the categories to which a given contact has been assigned.

I’d like to be able to see that Jeffrey is in Friends, Colleagues, and Windows Live. Please show me that somewhere, perhaps in the main list or contact view page.

[People] Reformat the WL People list.

Submitted by gregsedwards on March 11, 2009 to Aesthetics

The People list uses the full width of the browser. It may make sense for Hotmail to use the full width of the browser, but considering the information it presents, the main list on the People page just looks too thinly stretched.

Set a fixed with for the contact list on the People page (or add some more details to the list).

[Profile] More layout options on the Profile page.

Submitted by gregsedwards on March 11, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

There's currently no customization control on the WL Profile page.

With more control over what people see about me and links to all me WL stuff, the Profile page could become a viable replacement for WL Spaces.

[Profile] More types of favorite items, please.

Submitted by gregsedwards on March 11, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

The current favorite items lists are too limited.

There should be more types of lists, including TV shows, magazines, web sites, or perhaps just custom lists so I can roll my own. I would think they could fold the current Spaces lists in here as well. One place for all my WL lists. Done.

[Profile] Add a description of favorite items in the What's New feed.

Submitted by gregsedwards on March 11, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

Favorite things do not show comments in the What's New feed.

If someone adds an artist to their favorite music list, then I see the album, but I’d also to see their comments.
