[Messenger] Photo Sharing

Submitted by cowdozer on June 8, 2009 to Annoyance

When sharing photos in Windows Live Messenger, an in-window slideshow occupies the majority of the message window and cannot be resized. Only a couple of lines of conversation can be seen at a time.

Allow vertical resizing of the slideshow pane.

Alternatively, show pictures in a different window altogether, or in a pop-out section much like games are done.

[Messenger] Allow typing into message windows when offline

Submitted by cowdozer on June 8, 2009 to Annoyance

When intermittently disconnected (Offline) from Windows Live Messenger, typing into message windows is disabled.

If one is using a weak wireless network, this may happen every few minutes, and become very irritating having to wait for Messenger (more...)

Do not disable input into message windows when disconnected. Notify the user that they are offline and can't actually send messages another way, such as disabling the send button.

Setup should have a progress bar at the superbar

Submitted by nyp on June 2, 2009 to Usability

While installing, it would be nice if there's a progress bar at the superbar.

Add a progress bar at the superbar.

Service Agreement at Setup uses custom scrollbars that look like Classic theme

Submitted by nyp on June 2, 2009 to Aesthetics

The /very/ first setup screen displaying the service agreement uses custom scrollbars. Seriously, why not just use the native scrollbars? If you want to create custom scrollbars then fine, just don't make it look like the Windows Classic theme.

Use the native controls!!

Remove advertising from Messenger; clean-up and remove bloat from Messenger interface.

Submitted by broccauley on June 1, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

Messenger is supposed to be Microsoft's core IM app for windows. Why is it riddled with ads? Of course I know the answer to why this is, but it really makes Messenger look like cheap piece of shareware or something. It also clutters up the messenger (more...)

Higher Resolution video in Messenger

Submitted by broccauley on June 1, 2009 to Usability

Windows Live Messenger only supports video calls in 320x240 QVGA resolution. Most modern webcams, however, support VGA and higher. Modern internet connections are also now > 1Mbit and should be fine with the bandwidth.

Give us hi-res video if all users can support it, dropping down to a lower resolution if the quality of service is poor. Also use better video encoding such as H.264 instead of H.263.

[Messenger] Recent chats to quickly jump back to a chat that was closed.

Submitted by JTaylor69 on May 27, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

At the moment, if you accidentaly close a chat, and you wish to carry on, you have either wait for that person to speak, or find the contact in a list.
If you have lots of contacts, and it is hard to find a person using the word wheel, this may (more...)

Propose a recent chats category to enable users to quickly jump back into a chat with their contact.
Of course this will be optional to the user and can be enabled/disabled from the layout tab in options.
