Higher Resolution video in Messenger

Submitted by broccauley on June 1, 2009 to Usability

Windows Live Messenger only supports video calls in 320x240 QVGA resolution. Most modern webcams, however, support VGA and higher. Modern internet connections are also now > 1Mbit and should be fine with the bandwidth.

Give us hi-res video if all users can support it, dropping down to a lower resolution if the quality of service is poor. Also use better video encoding such as H.264 instead of H.263.

[Messenger] Recent chats to quickly jump back to a chat that was closed.

Submitted by JTaylor69 on May 27, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

At the moment, if you accidentaly close a chat, and you wish to carry on, you have either wait for that person to speak, or find the contact in a list.
If you have lots of contacts, and it is hard to find a person using the word wheel, this may (more...)

Propose a recent chats category to enable users to quickly jump back into a chat with their contact.
Of course this will be optional to the user and can be enabled/disabled from the layout tab in options.

Don't display "Are you sure" message while deleting if folder is empty in Windows Live Mail

Submitted by Ensign Joe on May 15, 2009 to Annoyance

(already posted this one in Windows 7 Taskforce)

If you click on the X next to the deleted mails folder, Live Mail asks "Are you sure to permanently delete the content of "Deleted items"?" (or something like that, have (more...)

Don't display this interrupting message if the folder is empty or - better - just hide the X or at least disable it.

[Messenger] Default "new message" sound is annoying

Submitted by Turbo on May 11, 2009 to Annoyance

10-year-olds cell kiddies may say otherwise, but the default sound played when a new message is received dates back from the XP era and, thus, is aggresive, loud, irritant, and overall annoying. It chains badly (when receiving multiple messages in rapid (more...)

Please add the ability to transfer folders into the SkyDrive

Submitted by aamir925 on May 6, 2009 to Usability

Currently, we can only transfer files into the SkyDrive, so it takes a long time, and many clicks, and is very annoying to load a huge amount of pictures.

It would be much better and user-friendly if a person could tranfer folders into the SkyDrive.

Import of contacts in CSV format is WAY too slow

Submitted by pmbAustin on May 6, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

I bought a new laptop, so I wanted to copy over my Contacts. I exported them to CSV format on my old laptop, copied the file over, and impoted them on my new laptop. The UI is fairly straight-forward here.

However, I have over 1000 contacts. (more...)

Performance of contact import is unacceptable. Improve performance.

Offline Favourite Contacts Don't Hide

Submitted by JamesStPats on May 5, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Usability

Basically when selecting the option to hide offline contacts, the "Favourites" are completely unaffected. This is annoying because it is common to choose a larger icon for these contacts and thus a lot of space is wasted.

Allow favourite offline contacts to be hidden.

Windows Live Mail: allow import as well as export of accounts

Submitted by pmbAustin on May 4, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

Windows Live Mail lets you export account settings. Which is great. But why doesn't it let you import them? I bought a new laptop, and exported all five of my email accounts on my old laptop, copied the *.IAF files over, and discovered there's (more...)

Ensure that anything you can export, you can import... and anything you can import, you can export. I should be able to share information and settings between two Windows Live Mail instances. Let people import account settings rather than having to (more...)

Status Updated based on Computer Activity

Submitted by Nivekv on May 3, 2009 to Aesthetics

When I lock/stand by/hibernate my computer Live Messenger still shows that I am "Available"

Add a simple script so that when the screensaver activates or the user locks/hibernates the status is set to Away. (This could also be disabled in settings)

Live Contacts that use a Yahoo Messenger ID are not showing as online and cannot be contacted via web Messenger

Submitted by mjflynt on April 23, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

Live Contacts that use a Yahoo Messenger ID are not showing as online and cannot be contacted via web Messenger. This seems to be affecting those who's Live ID is different that their IM address in their contact info.

This is possibly a bug, and it would require you fix it if so.
