Remake the Windows Live Hotmail/People Sidebar

Submitted by hoopla_punta on March 8, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

The Sidebar has some difficulties in UX:

Normally-long usernames cannot be fully seen.
There should be a seperator to differentiate between generic folders and user-created folders.

"Manage folders" looks (more...)

Fix the above problems.
A good example can be seen in places like Photos or Skydrive of Windows Live.

[Windows Live Mail] Let users manage images images!

Submitted by pmbAustin on March 7, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

I absolutely hate the "Photo Email" feature. It robs me of any and all control, and never does what I want. The closest I can come to doing what I want is to save the image to disk (I can't just paste it in), and then select "Insert (more...)

1) Provide an option to "turn off" the "picture email" feature, so that all photos are inline at full size by default

2) Let it be an OPTION to enable users to format the picture in different ways (resize it, add captions, (more...)

[Windows Live Mail] Let users turn off emoticon substitution!

Submitted by pmbAustin on March 7, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Currently, when typing in the body of an email, if you type ":-)", it's instantly converted into a graphic smilie face. There is no way to turn this off.

This is very annoying. I hate peppering my email text with distracting (more...)

1) Provide a configuration option to enable/disable the auto-substitution of graphic emoticons for text ones

2) Allow such auto-substitutions to be 'undone' with backspace, as well as Ctrl-Z, just like Outlook and Word.

Submitted by .Chris on March 6, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Icons, Usability

Why must we use a ugly old dialog box thats really dated just to resize the contacts? Let alone the old fashond way, of clicking radio buttons, clicking apply and clicking ok, just to see changes? Introduce a slider, much like the ones found in the vista/7 (more...)

ask user if they would like to join a group. Don't automatically add users to a group without their consent

Submitted by .Chris on March 6, 2009 to Aesthetics

If you've used the groups feature on messenger, you'll know what I'm talking about. You always get added to a group, even if you dont want to be in it at the moment!.

Do not have the user automatically be added to a group without their consent . Just because they are a member there, doesn't mean they want to be in the group every time they are logged in to messenger.

Windows Live Toolbar adds unnecessary search bar by default, no option to remove it.

Submitted by hoopla_punta on March 5, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

I have no grudges against this, I think there are some people that like two search bars, but this takes up a lot of space and looks real cluttered. It could be replaced by some other functionality, like a scrolling "what's new" etc.

Give an option to remove the search bar and disable by default.

[Messenger] Remove unused Email icon

Submitted by DavidTaraso on March 4, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Icons

I don't have an "official" Windows Live address (@msn, @live, @hotmail, etc.) but I have associated a Windows Live Passport to my existing email account. But with this, I don't have email service with Windows Live, so when clicking (more...)

Remove the email icon if the account is not associated with email service.
