Setup should have a progress bar at the superbar

Submitted by nyp on June 2, 2009 to Usability

While installing, it would be nice if there's a progress bar at the superbar.

Add a progress bar at the superbar.

Add group activities to my "What's new" feed.

Submitted by mjflynt on March 10, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Most activity in a group does not advertise anywhere. New discussion threads do and some other things, but new comments do not.

Allow all group activities to advertise their activity via the group's "what's new" page and via my "What's new" feed. I should be able to select the scope of the advertisement to my network on a group by group basis.

[Spaces] URLs should be human-readable

Submitted by jamiet on March 8, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Our blog entry URLs need to be human readable rather than some nonsensical code (e.g. http://jamiethomson.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!550F681DAD532637!8892.entry)

Put words into the URLs rather than nonsensical code (e.g. http://jamiethomson.spaces.live.com/blog/Laundry_list_of_wants_for_Windows (more...)

Clean SkyDrive URLs

Submitted by nifke on January 16, 2010 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

My SkyDrive URL is too long. When I want to share it I need to look at the website first and copy paste it because I can't remember the long range of characters in the url.

Instead of (more...)

Making the URL shorter and more readable with your name, nickname instead of a long ID number

Higher Resolution video in Messenger

Submitted by broccauley on June 1, 2009 to Usability

Windows Live Messenger only supports video calls in 320x240 QVGA resolution. Most modern webcams, however, support VGA and higher. Modern internet connections are also now > 1Mbit and should be fine with the bandwidth.

Give us hi-res video if all users can support it, dropping down to a lower resolution if the quality of service is poor. Also use better video encoding such as H.264 instead of H.263.

Windows Live Movie Maker

Submitted by semtido on April 23, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

Basicaly, windows movie maker as it is now, is a good program for doing absolutely nothing.

I can't edit a video on that: its just impossible. Come on, if you don't wanna work, just bring the old movie maker back: it was way better.

Copy i-movie. I dont care what you have to do: just give your users a good fast responsive video editing program, because i've simply never seen one.

I want to edit a video on windows what do i use? This pathetic movie maker isnt even (more...)

Windows Live Movie Maker can't split movie clips

Submitted by WindowsFan on March 8, 2009 to Usability

All you can do is "trim" the ends off of a clip, which is quite useless when you need to remove something from the middle of a clip.
It goes way beyond cutting out the middle of a clip, though. A "split" option can be used for (more...)

1. Replace the complicated trim option with a simple split button.
2. Allow us to at LEAST do all the stuff we could do with Windows Move Maker 6.

Backup to Skydrive on rightclicking files

Submitted by JJohnson on July 18, 2009 to Usability

I have a skydrive and a Mesh account, but no easy in-Windows way to send my files to either.

Have right-click integration of Skydrive and Mesh, so that I can highlight a group of files, select Back-Up, and select 'Skydrive.' Preferably integrate the Skydrive into Mesh so that they are the same thing - a full 25GB (or 30GB) of storage (more...)

Make the contact list quickly accessible in WebMessenger

Submitted by martijnsch on July 14, 2009 to Usability

WebMessenger is now integrated in Hotmail. There is no easy way to acces your contact list. To find a person to chat you need to go to people.live.com.

Make a pulldown menu with contacts in the top right of Hotmail. See mockup.

20 people limit in Group

Submitted by sklila on April 17, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

Love the new messenger, great layout and customization, however the 20 people limit in Group is way to small. Why Limit anyway?

Do not place limits in Group

Don't limit the size of groups to 20 people based on Messenger

Submitted by mjflynt on March 14, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Icons, Usability

Instead of listing every member of a group in Messenger and limiting the group size to 20 or less (if it is going to use Messenger to allow group chat) why not list only those actually online and not limit the overall group size to a absolute maximum (more...)

List only the first 20 members of a group that are actually online, and allow them to group chat. Do not show the 21st and later online person or show them with a special icon indicating they are not available, and do not let them in the chat. Show them (more...)

[Windows Live Mail] Let users manage images images!

Submitted by pmbAustin on March 7, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

I absolutely hate the "Photo Email" feature. It robs me of any and all control, and never does what I want. The closest I can come to doing what I want is to save the image to disk (I can't just paste it in), and then select "Insert (more...)

1) Provide an option to "turn off" the "picture email" feature, so that all photos are inline at full size by default

2) Let it be an OPTION to enable users to format the picture in different ways (resize it, add captions, (more...)
